Vaginal PRP
Vaginal PRP is another non-surgical option for the regeneration of vaginal tissue. It is a medical treatment that involves injecting platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the vagina to promote healing and regeneration of tissue. PRP is a portion of blood that contains all the growth factors that help heal injuries.
PRP treatments have most often been used to treat injuries in athletes, aid in recovery from surgery, and even to treat medical conditions like hair loss.
For vaginal rejuvenation, the treatment involves drawing blood from a patient, isolating the platelet-rich plasma from the blood, and reinjecting the platelet-rich plasma into the vagina. The O-Shot® is a type of PRP treatment for the vagina that claims to improve female sexual health and experience by creating new blood vessels and new nerves.
Vaginal PRP has been effective in:
- safely restoring the ability to climax
- improving the moistness of the vagina
- increasing the sensitivity to sensation
Since the substance that is being injected comes from one’s own body, there is little risk for allergic reaction. However, there are risks from the injection itself, including: infection, nerve injuries, or pain at the injection site.
Botox for Dyspareunia
Some women experience Dyspareunia, which is a medical condition that causes pain during sexual intercourse. Treatment for dyspareunia typically focus on the cause and may include lubricants, pelvic floor physical therapy, topical analgesics, vaginal estrogen, cognitive behavior therapy, vaginal dilators.
Botulinum toxin injection has become a treatment option for myofascial pelvic pain that does not respond to physical therapy. Botulinum toxin, also known as Botox, is a neurotoxin and is used in small doses to treat various medical conditions, including muscle spasms, migraines, and excessive sweating.
